Financial regulatory sandboxes have become institutionalized as innovation facilitators at regulators across the world. Globally there are well over 100 sandboxes in place across advanced and emerging economies, often complemented by innovation hubs. Early adopters started establishing sandboxes nearly a decade ago. Since then, sandbox frameworks – whether established ones or those recently introduced – have seen a continuous evolution in response to learnings and industry feedback.
This insight highlights five examples of new features that regulators have introduced as part of their “next generation” sandboxes.
